Module 1 - Introduction and Study Fundamentals
Let's start our journey together by introducing you to the world of aviation! Also, since your journey through the Academy of Aeronautics and Aviation Sciences will include college level courses we need to prepare you for the rigors of college education. Don't worry, we'll get through this and on to the fun stuff!
Module 2 - Aviation History
From the Wright Brothers first flight from the sand dunes of Kitty Hawk, NC to the incredible technology of today's aircraft, this module will take us through Aviation History so that we can know and appreciate the adventurous pioneering spirit of aviators throughout the last century-plus
Module 3 - Principles of Flight
There's more to flight than "magic makes an airplane go up and gravity makes it come down". At the completion of this module, you'll never look at aircraft or birds of the air in the same way. We will explore principles of flight, aerodynamic considerations of various aircraft designs, and the influence of environmental factors on aircraft performance.
Module 4 - Aircraft Types
There is a vast spectrum of aircraft types in the world, a type for every kind of aviation enthusiast. In this module we will develop a working knowledge of the various aircraft types, their uses, and specific considerations for each type.
Module 5 - Aircraft Structure and Systems
Did you ever wonder what all those sounds were that you hear when flying in an airliner? In this module we will learn about the various systems that are critical for basic performance, safety, execution of various phases of flight, and mission accomplishment. Additionally, we will learn the components of an aircraft's structure and what makes the aircraft structure strong while being flexible.
Module 6 - Aircraft Manufacturing and Maintenance
The flying of an airplane is only a part of the overall story of aviation. The manufacture and maintenance of aircraft is the behind the scenes essentials necessary for the aircraft to get off the ground. This module will provide an appreciation for the extraordinary effort needed to keep aircraft safe, efficient, and available for flight.
Module 7 - National Airspace System
Just like driving around the roads of DFW, airplanes follow a complex system of "roads" in the sky. In this module we will learn how the air over our heads is structured to provide the safest and most expeditious flow of aircraft around America and around the world.
Module 8 - Airports
There is a whole lot more to airports than the runways. In this module we'll take a behind the scenes look at the infrastructure, electronics, markings, lighting, and everything else required to operate airplanes from our airports.
Model 14 - Weather and Flight Planning
Module 15 - Flight Physiology
Unlike birds, human bodies weren't created to live in the upper reaches of our atmosphere. In this module we will learn about the effects on the human anatomy when exposed to the aviation environment.
Module 18 - Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
Module 20 - Final Project - Professional Flight Brief
As a comprehensive wrap up of our efforts for the entire year, my awesome students will deliver a simulated flight brief which will discuss all of the information that they learned throughout the year. We may not be going out to the flight line to strap into a high performance jet and go screaming through the skies, but when the students are complete with their flight brief we would be able to do so. This final project will exercise their knowledge of the various subject matter, but just as important, it will build the student's public speaking confidence and their ability to critically think through a complex process in a professional manner.
